Idli, halwa, pulav for Gaganyaan astronauts

Idli, veg pulao, moong dal halwa… no this is not any food order in a restaurant. These, and many more food items, are on the list of foods astronauts of Gaganyaan would get to eat in space. A Mysuru lab has prepared special food packets for astronauts taking part in India's upcoming manned space mission, Gaganyaan. They'll also have food heaters. Also, special containers have been created to help astronauts drink liquids in zero gravity. India's space agency Isro recently said four astronauts had been identified for the Gaganyaan mission. Training will begin in the third week of January in Russia. The Gaganyaan programme envisages demonstrating human space flight capability for 5-7 days in a Low Earth Orbit, and safely recovering crew members after the mission. ISRO has said that they would be able to accomplish the mission by December 2021. The spacecraft is likely to consist of an Orbital Module which will have a service and a crew module. The mission is estimated to cost around Rs 10,000 crore. Fun fact With this, India could potentially become the fourth country to send a man to space, after the erstwhile USSR, the US and China. Denmark also has a manned space flight scheduled for 2022.
