Madhubani is renowned for its art, but last week the Bihar district was in news for ‘out of the world’ reasons. Literally! A suspected meteorite, the size of a football, plunged into a rice field in Mahadeva village. The farmers working on the field got startled when a 13 kg extraterrestrial object came flying down billowing smoke. They later pulled out the rock from almost five feet crater which was formed after the impact. A celestial object, with the magnetic properties, was transferred to a museum in Patna on the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Fun fact When a meteor encounters our atmosphere and is vaporized, it leaves behind a trail. That “burning” meteoroid is called a meteor.
