South Asian Games: India tops its own record

It was the best medal haul till date for India. The Indian contingent at South Asian Games 2019 brought home both laurels and medals. Actually India concluded the South Asian Games with their highest medal tally in the history of the tournament. The contingent was able to win 310 medals, which includes 172 gold, 93 silver, and 45 bronze medals. India had claimed 309 medals in the 2016 edition of the South Asian Games and by winning 310 this time around, the contingent has broken their record. Indian wrestlers and swimmers put on brilliant shows in their disciplines, with the swimmers picking up 7 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze and wrestlers bagging 4 gold. India also won one gold in handball and three in fencing. In Table Tennis, India made a clean sweep with seven gold and five silver medals, winning the maximum medals on offer in the game. India claimed gold in both men’s and women’s singles event. India won gold in men’s and women’s singles badminton event and in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles event. India also won two gold medals in the men’s and women’s team events to finish at the top in the badminton medal standings. Nepal concluded the tournament at the second position in the medal tally with a total of 204 medals. Sri Lanka and Pakistan are on the third and fourth spots respectively.
