Spanish opera reopens to leafy audience Barcelona It’s no big deal for Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu Opera House to be housefull. Only this time the audience was a bit different. Barcelona’s Liceu opera reopened its doors for the first time in over three months to hold a concert – exclusively for a quiet, leafy audience of nearly 2,300 house plants. Organisers said the intention was to reflect on the absurdity of the human condition in the era of the coronavirus, which deprives people of their position as spectators. Check out the performance here: https://youtu.be/rgvadprJFRc The event was the work of conceptual artist Eugenio Ampudia and included a performance from the UceLi Quartet string quartet. Although humans were not present in the audience, spectators could watch the "Concierto para el bioceno" via livestream. The plants were brought in from nearby nurseries and each one will be donated to a healthcare worker from the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona.
