U19 World Cup: Bangladesh lifts the cup
It seemed like a bad weekend for the Indian cricket. While the seniors lost the series to New Zealand, the Under 19 players couldn’t defend their championship trophy in the U19 World Cup.
Bangladesh has lifted its maiden Under-19 Cricket World Cup after beating India. Bangladesh captain Akbar Ali held his nerves till the end to quash India’s unbeaten streak of 11 matches in U-19 World Cup. Overall, there were quite a few memorable moments in the tournament and many youngsters showed a lot of promise.
India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal made a powerful impact. He was declared the Man of the Tournament. Akbar Ali was Man of the Match. India fought hard with the ball through Ravi Bishnoi but the rest of the pack faltered when it mattered. It’s their only defeat in the tournament.
There were 16 teams participating in this tournament. Before this match, the Indian team had won the Under 19 World Cup four times, followed by Australia with 3 titles so far.
The present Team India captain Virat Kohli had played 2008 under 19 cricket world cup along with Ravindra Jadeja, Manish Pandey, and Sidharth Kaul. But the record of most runs (505) in a single tournament lies with Shikhar Dhawan (2004).
