A luxury hotel on ISS?
The future of space travel is booming, and getting more luxurious for the adventure lovers.
Nasa has selected a company to build a private hotel on board the International Space Station. The new additions to the ISS will include a crew habitat that will serve as a home for future space tourists.
It will also have a research and manufacturing facility and large-windowed Earth observatory. Axiom, the Texas-based company, is building the extension.
Axiom hopes the segment could one day serve as a self-contained space station that could replace the ISS when it is decommissioned. It hopes to launch the new commercial hub in 2024.
Nasa announced last year that it would allow space tourists onto the ISS, as part of a broader effort to encourage commercial companies to become involved in the US space exploration. Those first visitors were expected to arrive later this year.
The International Space Station (ISS) is a habitable human-made satellite that orbits Earth at an altitude of between 330 km and 435 km. It is the largest artificial body in space. The ISS has 2 bathrooms, a gym and more room than a 6 bedroom house.
