Covid 19: Mumbai sees silver lining but the danger is not over Mumbai The Central government has come out with new guidelines for the lockdown and while there may be a few reliefs, the state governments are in no mood to relent. While the guidelines say that gyms can reopen by the first week of August, it seems unlikely that any state would adhere to that advice. Tamil Nadu has already extended the lockdown till August 31. While Mumbai saw dip in the number of cases doubling per day, it’s still the worst-affected city in the country. India is registering almost 50,000 new cases everyday for a few days now. Though the tally has still not gone beyond world number two Brazil, it’s scary enough with more than 15 lac reported cases. Even the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chauhaan, was tested positive last week. Globally the number of coronavirus infections has crossed the 17-million mark. The US repeated more than 4.5 million cases with more than 1,50,000 deaths. Brazil is just behind the US with more than 2.5 lac cases. South Africa, Mexico, Peru and Chile too have reported a sudden rise in the numbers. The president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has gone into quarantine and so have many Bolivian ministers.
