Has Italy developed a vaccine for Covid 19? Rome Italian researchers claim to have developed a vaccine that can neutralise the coronavirus in human cells. Tests carried out at Rome’s infectious-disease Spallanzani Hospital generated antibodies in mice that work in human cells. Italian agencies also claimed that they were the first in the world so far to have demonstrated a neutralisation of the coronavirus by a vaccine. Human tests are expected after this summer. The next tests will be conducted to understand how long the immune response lasts. Last week, experts at the University of Oxford said the first results of coronavirus vaccine trials could be ready by as early as mid-June. Israel too has claimed to isolate a key coronavirus antibody at its primary biological research centre. The country is calling it a “significant breakthrough” towards a possible treatment for Covid-19. If the claims are true, maybe we would get a vaccine soon.
