Kids make music to beat winter blues 

Ever wondered if you are cut off from the world, and have to live with only a couple of people around you and snow. Scary right? People living in Wapekaka in Canada have to struggle through this loneliness throughout the year. And it becomes more difficult in winters. Wapekeka First Nation has a population of around 500 people and doesn’t even have a high school. The town can only be reached by aircraft. It’s an indigenous Canadian community and mostly stays isolated from the others. The children here also suffer from mental stress due to heavy snow and gloomy weather. But there are things to cheer them up. And they discovered it with music. In their original hip-hop song The Great Escape, the kids of Wapekeka talk about feeling isolated, especially in the winter. “It’s snowing outside, we don’t know what to do,” they sing. They do turn to family, friends and hockey but there are more things to do than that. And music helped them de-stress. Fun fact Canada’s lowest recorded temperature is as cold as Mars. The average low for the month of January in Ottawa is -14.4 C (6.1 F). A temperature of -63 C (-81.4 F) was recorded in the small village of Snag on February 3, 1947. That’s roughly the same temperature as the surface of Mars!
