Meet the Sanskrit-speaking staff of this shop

How would you communicate with a salesman who speaks in Sanskrit? Yes, imagine entering into Hamleys and being addressed not in English or Hindi, but Sanskrit! Baffling, isn’t it? Well, don’t worry the malls wouldn’t put you in such a situation but there is one shop in Karnataka where more than its 50 employees converse in Sanskrit! You must know that Sanskrit is our ancient language. Some of you may choose to learn it in school too. It’s hardly used in day-to-day workings of our lives, mostly because we are more used to speaking English or our mother tongues. But the owner of this shop 3 Garments in Vijayapura, Ram Singh Rajput took it upon himself to teach his staff this ancient language. Ten years ago he started this initiative and today all his employees, be of any caste or religion, fluently speak the language. But this shop is not the only Sanskrit-speaking place. A village in Karnataka, Mattur, is known for its inhabitants using Sanskrit as their mother tongue. The Indian government’s Ministry of Human Resources and Development is planning to develop Chittebail in Shivamogga district into a ‘Sanskrit village’, same as Mattur. Fun fact The state language of Uttarakhand, Sanskrit has a vast treasure of synonyms for each word, for example the word elephant has 100 different synonyms!
