Miss World: India finds third spot
India’s Suman Rao won the title of Miss World Asia 2019 at the Miss World beauty pageant.
The 21-year-old model from Rajasthan qualified to the top three and was announced as the second runner-up of Miss World 2019. Miss Jamaica Toni-Ann Singh was crowned Miss World 2019.
Born in Aidana village near Udaipur, Rao is a trained Kathak dancer.
In the 69th edition of the Miss World pageant held in London a total of 120 contestants from all over the world competed for the crown.
France’s Ophely Mezino came in a close second in the contest. Singh is the fourth Jamaican woman to win the beauty pageant. The prestigious title was won by Jamaica after a decades-long gap. The island-nation had last won the contest in 1993, when Lisa Hanna had represented the country.
Fun Fact
The last time India had won the Miss World title was in 2017, when Manushi Chillar represented the country, in a win which had come in 17 years after Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra had bagged the title in the year 2000.
