Trending Art column: Meet Gautam Gajbar, Mumbai’s visual artist Art World Kinjal Trivedi Mumbai’s great visual artist Who remembers the Bleed Blue campaign for the Indian Cricket team? It’s a dream come true for any artist to be creating content for the Gods of our country. Meet Gautam A Gajbar. He belongs to Mumbai and is a graphic artist. His education has been from L.S.Raheja School of Arts - Applied arts diploma. He got his Bachelor's degree of Visual communication (Majors: Graphic Design) from Raffles Design, Singapore both schools were important to him, he says. “I learned a lot from both institutes. I got my basic strength at Raheja and explored more in design at Raffles. Not just schools, the friends, people that I surrounded myself with helped me grow as an visual artist.” His style of art is Illustration in essence. “Illustration is my base and I create design and art around it. Style is very graphic.” Gautam is inspired by the city he belongs to and the everyday life. He absorbs the happenings around him and transforms them into a graphic language. “Born and brought up in Mumbai the city has a major influence on me, the culture here,resilience, order in chaos, opportunities and the ever hospitable nature. I am a junkie when it comes to music and sports. These two things inspire me a lot and have been a major influence on my art. I draw and create a lot of content that I consume, be it movies, stories, biopics, documentaries the list goes on.” The importance of his style is very interesting, he sees the stories behind every art. Gautam says, “For me the subject is always important. Then comes the end result.” Gautam loves to watch movies and sports just like all of us. However, he uses this knowledge to create mind blowing work. “My style is more pop culture driven and I do lots of sport portraits and illustrations. I also do a lot of branding and main stream design work. If I have to be very specific, my style is very raw and I like to be versatile with my work. I think I will always be a student of my field / industry and keep learning new things. The key here is to grow better as a visual artist and as a human being.”
