T20 World Cup: India fails to claim the trophy, Australia win
Unbeaten till the finals, India lost the T20 World Cup to defending champions Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Alyssa Healy smashed a quick-fire 75 and Beth Mooney hit an unbeaten 78 as the defending champions plundered an ominous 184/4 — the highest score ever in a Women’s T20 World Cup final. In reply, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led India could only manage 99 in 19.1 overs, ending a 17-day tournament that reinforced Australia’s dominance of the sport, having now won five of the seven World Cups so far.
India were the youngest team at the Women’s T20 World Cup with 4 teenagers in their side. Shafali Verma’s show of fabulous series came to an end where the youngster couldn’t do any magic with her bat.
Australian all-round performance till the end of the match kept them on top of the game.
At 16 years and 40 days, Shafali Verma became the youngest cricketer to feature in any World Cup final (including men’s cricket).
