Art world Kinjal Trivedi The power of Circles and Straight Lines! There is power in drawing forms in free hand. Circles. Straight lines. Sensitive lines. Curves. These are the foundation of what we call one of the most important styles of drawing: Illustration. So why is drawing a circle or a straight line, in free hand, without the use of any instrument such a big deal? One of the best training I had received from my teacher when I was learning how to draw was such a simple exercise that later on I realized that she was building my foundation block by block. I had to spread a newspaper, take a pen or pencil and draw circles. That's it! I had to draw as many circles freehand as possible without leaving an inch of space on the entire spread newspaper. This would ideally take 60 minutes a day so I could be watching TV or listening to music and keep practicing. Over years I realized that this created a flow in my mind and hand muscle memory to make the right curves and circles effortlessly with my hands. Be it on a small piece of paper of a very large canvas. This was a part of me that stayed. Another exercise was to make lines. Draw straight lines with pen or pencil without using any help from rulers or any straight edged object. This practice also teaches you focus, patience and confidence that you can make these forms at any given time. Would you like to practice such forms to eventually use them as construction lines? Product Designing, Automobile Designing, Nature Art, Creating Depth and Perspective are some of the subjects you can use this talent.
