Finland: Sanna Marin and her women-dominated cabinet

Finland’s transportation minister became the world’s youngest prime minister this week when she won a vote among Social Democrat lawmakers. She replaced outgoing Prime Minister Antti Rinne. But that’s not all. Marin will lead a coalition government with four other female leaders, who will form the top layer of her newly formed cabinet dominated by women. Finland's new cabinet has a total of 12 women and seven men. The cabinet will have five women in top spots, three of whom are under 35. Marin rose through the ranks after leading the city council of her industrial hometown Tampere when she was 27. The Social Democrats are the largest party in a five-member governing coalition. Marin took the top spot after beating the head of the party's parliamentary group, Antti Lindtman. Marin isn't the only world leader in her 30s, though Ukranian premier Oleksiy Honcharuk is 35 and New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is 39.
