Global Climate Strike: How’s that?
Thousands of children around the world would skip school and join in Global Climate Strike starting from today till September 22. Until now 13 cities across the country from Delhi to Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai have announced of the hosting of the event.
Responding to the call of Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg, the children and adults alike would voice their concern over climate change and global warming. The strike on September 20 aims to bring awareness to the climate crisis in the days preceding the UN’s climate change summit; students have pledged to walk out from schools to “call attention” to the crisis and to make certain demands.
The strikes are planned worldwide and more than 120 countries have pledged their cooperation. Thunberg is in New York for the UN climate summit after making a transatlantic trip on a zero emissions sailboat. (Link) The strikes would raise awareness about global warming and environment hazards.
All NYC schools will excuse the absence of students who will take part in the climate strike on September 20. The kids would need parent’s consent though.
