Greta Thunberg confronted the world leaders by saying, "How dare you?" and condemned them for failing to take strong measures to combat climate change. “This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you? You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. People are suffering, people are dying, and entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth,” she said. She first learned about the crisis when she was just eight years old. At 11, she went into depression, after which she stopped going to school and lost up to 10 kg weight in just two months. It was during this time at home that she discussed her environmental concerns with her parents. The teenager, in her home country Sweden, had staged the first 'skolstrejk för klimatet' (school strike for climate change) outside the Swedish parliament building on August 20, 2018.
