India’s a major player in Covid 19 vaccine Pune India is not only the second most populous country of the world but it also has the highest market for vaccines. Whether any company in the world is able to invent a vaccine for Covid 19, one thing is for sure: India would play a major role in its production and consumption as well. India, the big player Do you know that India controls nearly 60% of the global supply of all kinds of vaccines. Pune-based Serum Institute of India is supposed to be the largest manufacturer of vaccines in the world! The company has entered into an agreement to produce the vaccine which is being developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. The Frontrunners Oxford University and AstraZeneca’s vaccine is currently undergoing phase III trials in at least two countries and is about to get into similar late stage trials in India soon. The other front runner is American company Moderna. The company has already entered phase-III trials, for which 30,000 volunteers have been roped in. India’s Zydus and Bharat Biotech are also showing promising results in the testing of the vaccines. More than 160 vaccines for novel Coronavirus are currently being developed across the world. Alongwith Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, Panacea Biotech, Shanta Biotech, Biological E Limited too are trying and already have large production capacities. Depending on the success of phase 3, the vaccine could be ready by the end of this year.
