Joe Biden is America’s new President Washington After days of waiting and counting still going on, the Democrat candidate and two time vice-president Joe Biden has been projected as America’s 46th president. Biden’s Republican opponent and US president Donald Trump, however, has refused to concede, saying the “election is far from over” and that he will not “rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and what Democracy demands”. The news agency Associated Press has declared Biden’s win over President Trump after having called Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral votes for Biden. The tally now has 290 votes for Biden and 214 for Trump. The total electoral votes needed to win the presidency is 270. Many states are still counting votes and will only officially declare results in the days to come. Most of these votes are mail-in votes and a majority of them are projected to be in favour of Biden. But Trump has already declared to go to court with the results. Georgia may start recounting if votes. There may be recounting in the states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan too. “America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not,” Biden said in a statement. With Biden being the new President, Kamala Harris would be the first woman of colour to become the vice-president of the USA.
