Namaste Trump in India
It was a rare bromance between leaders of two large nations, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump kept the world hooked to their friendship.
The US President visited India for two days with First Lady Melania Trump, daughter Ivanka and son in law Jared Kushner.
The great welcome
Trump arrived in Ahmedabad and was received by Modi himself. Their first stop was Sabarmati Ashram. After that the leaders held the Namaste Trump function at Motera Stadium filled with more than 100,000 people.
The event was more like Trump’s campaign for his 2020 re-election.
No trip to India is complete without a visit to the Taj Mahal. The American first family too was awed by the Taj’s beauty. The Trumps also took the ceremonial pics seated in front of the Taj Mahal.
Next day, President Trump paid tribute to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi at the Rajghat. He also visited the Indian President Ramnath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Trumps stayed at the ITC Maurya presidential suite — the cost of which was Rs8 lacs per night
No big deal
Though every visit by the leader of any country is aimed at increasing the business prospect with the host nation, the US president seemed more inclined towards sightseeing and photo options. No major deal was signed by the two countries. However, a defence deal worth $3 billion was signed where India agreed to buy American helicopters.
Though Trump talked about Kashmir and Citizenship Amendment Act, and protested against it, he seems satisfied with the way the Modi government was handling the situation. Even as there were riots breaking out in Delhi, Trump and family are quite happy with the way things are in India right now.
