Vaccine hopes rise but cases refuse to subside Mumbai It seems there’s no end to the agony that is Coronavirus. Even as many countries continue to relax lockdown rules, many new nations are showing immense spikes in the number of cases. The Latin American and South African countries are now showing an increase in the number of cases. Though it may be a result of relaxed lockdown norms, many are not denying that this may also be a second wave of the Covid 19 infections. Worldwide, the number of cases has crossed 18 million and the US is at the worst end with more than 4 million infections. Till now, more than 15 lac people have lost lives to this mysterious virus. After the US, Brazil has the highest number of cases with a 2-million mark. Mexico, Peru, Chile and Columbia have reported a spike in cases and are also featuring in the list of top 10 countries with highest number of infections. Russia, South Africa, Iran and the UK too are few of the worst-affected nations. India stands at the third position with more than 19 lac cases. Though our death rate is not that high, it is still frightening at the way the number of infections are rising everyday. Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have already reported more than a lac cases each while Maharashtra remains the worst-affected with more than 4 lac cases. Mumbai is still reporting the highest number of cases. The past week has not been so good for the city with heavy rainfall and a rising number of Covid 19 infections. Mumbai witnessed a massive rainfall, the last the city witnessed this kind of downpour was in 2005 when the floods had destroyed the very crux of the city.
